Archives Resource Centre

The archive and resource centre contains collections deposited in the archives of the former Institute for Historical Research and a small reference library consisting of books and videos from the collection of ERIP, the IHR and the CHR. These books, videos and documents can be consulted at Center for Humanities Research. The books can be located via the UWC library's catalogue. In addition, the CHR is partnered with the internationally renowned UWC Robben Island Mayibuye Archives which houses an expansive collection of multimedia collections on the history of the liberation struggle in South Africa.

  • New Republic Party
    A small collection of pamphlets produced by the New Republic Party between 1977 and 1978
  • National Party
    Pamphlets and publications published by the National Party between 1952 and 1977
  • Maj. P. Witbooi
    A collection of personal documents, consisting of correspondence and a selection of certificates, 1955-1974
  • N Kearns
    A range of personal documents consisting of memoranda, speeches, programmes and diaries, particularly from trips abroad in the 1950s
  • N G Sendingkerk
    A small selection of publications by the NG Sendingkerk from 1956 to 1978.
  • National Union of Laundry, Cleaning and Dyeing Workers ( Cape )
    The documents consist mainly of correspondence, minute books and financial reports, covering the period 1947 to 1974
  • Society for the Friends of the Blind
    Correspondence and minutes of the organization from 1960 to 1980.
  • Cape Times
    In addition to a set of the newspaper from 1916 to 1986, this collection comprises copies of The Owl for 1899-1905, Cape Hansard from 1893-1909 and the Senate Debates for 1910-11.
  • Department Social Work
    Newspaper cuttings donated by the Department dealing with social work issues between 1962 and 1971.
  • Education Resource Information Project
    A collection of videos pertaining to liberation struggles and movements in southern Africa
  • Census of ex slave 1846
    Census of liberated slaves, primarily on mission stations, carried out by the colonial government.
  • Ottery School of Industry
    Case files of boys committed to the institution from 1949
  • Times of London
    Selected copies of the newspaper, 1922-1957
  • Ons Land and Weekblad
    A set of copies of the newspaper, 1957-1968
